Funeral services for Ms. Connie Lynne Holmes, age 43, of Anniston, will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at The Church of St. Michael and All Angels with The Rev. Bruce A. White officiating. Interment will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 4 – 6 PM at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs. Ms. Holmes died May 13, 2009. Ms. Holmes graduated from Auburn University with a B.S. in Education Language Arts. While at Auburn, she was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, the Delta Gamma Sorority, and was a little sister to the Theta Xi fraternity. She also graduated from Jacksonville State University with a M.S. in Education. She had retired as an English teacher from Oxford High School. She was an accomplished, award-winning ballroom dancer. Ms. Holmes was a member of The Church of St. Michael and All Angels. Ms. Holmes is preceded in death by her father, Senator Donald G. Holmes; and her grandparents, Dewey E. Holmes, Martha L. Holmes, and Troy L. Shears. Ms. Holmes is survived by her mother, Brenda Holmes of Anniston; her grandmother, Eddie Mae Edwards; her longtime boyfriend, Scott Welch; uncles and aunts, Dr. Julian E. Holmes and his wife, Judy, Leroy Shears and his wife, Delois, Jimmy Shears and his wife, Sharon, and William E. Shears; and numerous cousins. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Shears, Gary Welch, Barry W. Smith, Christopher Welch, Jamey W. Smith, Nathan Thomas, and David Clemmons. Honorary pallbearers will be David Davis, Hans Smith, Lanford Owens, Ronald J. Wheeler, Hector Baeza, Mayor Leon Smith, and Nikolas G. Smith.
