James Stewart Anderton, born in Birmingham on July 22, 1954 to Shirley S. Anderton and the late James Wesley Anderton, went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2018. He graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1972 and then attended the University of Montevallo, where during a summer break he found his true avocation, carpentry. He became a master carpenter, always being thorough and precise, getting the job done right the first time. He believed that treating clients with honesty and respect was the key to customer satisfaction and repeat business. Jim was talkative and friendly, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was an avid reader and nature lover from a young age, enjoying long hikes in the woods and fishing trips where no fish were harmed. He is survived by his mother, Shirley S. Anderton, his brother, Wesley Scott Anderton (Martha); his sister, Valerie A. Abbott, his nephews Thomas W. Abbott (Jenine) and Gregory S. Anderton (Mandi); nieces Sara Anderton and Ashlee Abbott and nephews Andrew and Alexander Abbott. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Jim's name to Southside Baptist Church or the American Diabetes Association. Friends and family are invited to attend the graveside service, officiated by Dr. Tim Kelley, on Thursday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery. Thank you to the doctors and nurses of the UAB MICU and the Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care. |
