| About | West, Robert Alan (Bobby), age 67, of Hoover, AL passed away Monday February 15, 2021 after a battle with COVID-19. Bobby was the person who never met a stranger. He could make everyone laugh and always had a smile and kind words. He is probably making the saints in Heaven laugh right now! Bobby had the best times riding his motorcycles, traveling to Gatlinburg and the beach with family and friends. Bobby always loved the Lord and his faith and love for the Lord were deepened through his participation in the Men's Discipleship Small Group that was led by his brother Mike at Westwood Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thornton Lee and Ann Marie West. He is survived by his wife, Gail West; sons, Sean Willis and Robbie West and daughter-in-law, Lindsey; his sister, Diane Grillo (Tom); brother, Mike (Wanda); and 2 grandchildren, Beckett and Naomi who were the love of his life. Bobby worked at the Birmingham News for over forty years. He worked in almost every department, from Editorial, Circulation, Marketing and Advertising Sales. He was loved and respected by his co-workers and was known for his hard work and great relationships with co-workers and clients AND for cracking jokes and making everybody laugh! Due to ongoing COVID concerns, the family will hold a private funeral service Thursday at Church of the Highlands Chapel. A drive by Celebration of Life for Bobby will be held Saturday Feb. 20th for anyone who wants to drive by and wave at the family and pay respects to Bobby. Decorate your car if you'd like! Cars will start lining up at 12:30 at Shades Crest Baptist Church on Park Avenue in Bluff Park and follow the lead car to 201 Caliente Drive. Bobby loved his dog, Max who followed him wherever he went. He would appreciate donations to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
