JONES, SARA "MISSIE" ASKEW, passed away on Saturday April 16, 2011. Sara was born and raised in Birmingham and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors degree in English from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. A prolific writer, ballerina, painter, and artist, Sara leaves behind a creative legacy matched only by her loving heart and zest for life. "Carpe diem" (Latin for "seize the day") was Sara's life motto, and she truly lived by these words in her career as a ballerina, artist, and writer for Southern Living Magazine. Sara is survived by her daughter Sara Ashley Orr, her husband John Jones, her brother William Askew, and many loving friends and extended family. Visitation will be held at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood on Monday April 18 from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with memorial service the following day at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, tributes be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
