About | Amy Lynn Petersen died Sunday, Oct. 26, in Tuscaloosa. She was 24. Amy was a 1997 graduate of Grissom High School and was attending the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Amy is survived by her mother, Josephine Petersen, of Huntsville; her father and stepmother, Robert and Janice Petersen. Also, her sister and brother-in-law, Terri and Mark Buteau; niece, Tyler and nephews, Christopher and Nicholas Buteau of Huntsville; and several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Amy was embarking on this phase of her education with great desire and passion. On June 15, 2007, a new fund was established (for which fundraising began in late 2003), by her family and friends, in the memory of a REL minor and New College major, Amy Petersen (pictured at left), who died quite unexpectedly in October of 2003. The Amy Lynn Petersen Endowed Support Fund was originally dedicated to providing a book for each student in our REL 490 Capstone Senior Seminar — a course required of all majors and minors and offered each Spring semester. But, after being used in this fashion for several years, now the fund is used at the Chair’s discretion and is dedicated to assisting REL students in need. It is the department’s hope that, through this kind gift, Amy’s memory will live on through her family’s interest in the work we do. |
