About | Scott Robert Leist passed away April 5, 2013, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. He went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by family and close friends, in the presence of Jesus. Born Feb. 20, 1954, to Robert and Leta Leist, in El Paso, Texas, he lived in Fairbanks since 1969, when his father retired from the military and returned the family to Fairbanks where they were stationed many years before. He married the love of his life, Pamela, on June 1, 1973. They had two wonderful daughters, and eventually, two son-in-laws, and then seven amazing grandchildren, who all love Pop. Besides enjoying managing and co-owning Alaska Auto Care, his deepest passion was for the boys' Royal Rangers program and Frontiersman Camping Fellowship through his church, First Assembly of God. The motto of "Reach, Teach and Keep Boys for Christ" played an integral part in his life. Scott was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Leta; wife, Pamela; daughters, Aubrey (Billy) Welch, of North Pole, and Stephanie (Josh) Herren, of Anchorage; and grandchildren, Scott, Abby and Nathaniel Welch, and Morgan, Caden, Naomi and Gabriel Herren. Scott also is survived by sisters, Sharon (Richard) Deck, of Fairbanks; Suzan (John) Palmer, of Anchorage, and Sandra Leist, of Fairbanks; and many nieces and nephews in Alaska and out of state. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Fairbanks First Assembly of God, 2830 Airport Way. Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Fairbanks First Assembly of God on Airport Way. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to support the Royal Ranger Program at Alaska Ministry Network, 1048 West International Airport Road, Suite 101, Anchorage, AK 99518.
