About Former longtime Alaska resident William Edward "Bill" Corey, 51, died May 20 Former longtime Alaska resident William Edward "Bill" Corey, 51, died May 20, 2005, of a heart attack at home in Ocean Shores, Wash. A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Arlington, Wash., followed by a reception in the church hall. Mr. Corey was born Jan. 7, 1954, in Fairbanks to Bill and Gloria Corey. He graduated from Lathrop High School in 1972. He settled in Washington state and married Janet Kay Pruitt in 1978. They lived in Arlington for 25 years with their three children. The last two years of his life were spent in Ocean Shores, where he enjoyed daily walks on the beach with his friend Larry, playing with his granddaughter, Kaytlynn, and bowling. Mr. Corey traveled nationwide as a truck driver. Besides his family, the loves of his life were his dogs and his Harley Davidson. His family wrote: "Bill worked hard and played hard. He had a marvelous sense of humor, was a great impressionist, and loved to ski and surf. He has many friends still in the Fairbanks area and used to come back for all the high school reunions." Survivors are his parents, Bill and Gloria Corey of Homer; wife of 27 years, Janet Corey of Ocean Shores; sons and daughter-in-law, Billy Joe Corey and Cory and Shannon Pruitt; daughter and son-in-law, Denise Pruitt and John Mobley, all of Washington state; grandchildren, Dane Sloan, Ryan Pruitt, Derek Pruitt and Kaytlynn Corey; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Karen Corey; aunt and uncle, Jean and Bob Richardson; his five Richardson cousins and their families: Dan and Nancy, Mark and Dee, Scott and Angie, Rob and Leslie, and Todd and Pauline; aunt and uncle, Sandie and Lon Parrish; and cousins and their families: Chris and Lori Meltvedt, Sean and Mary Meltvedt and Patrick Parrish-Messmer. A second generation Alaskan, he leaves behind other family members and friends statewide including many Carrolls and their families from Homer and Fairbanks.
