About | Lorraine Townley Smith Bourgeois passed away on January 18, 2022 at John C. Lincoln Hospital. Lorraine was born on October 14, 1956 to Sylvia and Edward Smith and was a 4th generation Arizonan. She attended Papago Grade School, then Madison #1 for 7th & 8th grades. Throughout school, Lorraine excelled scholastically and was multi-talented, especially loving to sing, and paint. She, along with two dear friends and her sister, won a district talent contest as the "Windy Trio". She also was very active in Girl Scouts. At Camelback High School, Lorraine held leadership positions in several school organizations, including being Captain of the Pom line. She received many honors, some of which included the Camelback High designate and modeling for the Rhodes Hi-Board, being nominated for Homecoming Queen, a St. Luke's (now Board of Visitors) debutante, and as one of two individuals asked to give graduation speeches for the Class of 1974. She then attended the University of Arizona where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and graduated with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. Her sorority sisters continued to be very important to her long after graduation. After leaving college, Lorraine began her career in sales for the Minolta dealership in Arizona, then using her creative skills, worked for an advertising agency and in radio sales. She took a break from this and joined the restaurant industry as a server for many popular restaurants, also helping to open and serving in management for several. She had a large following of customers who followed her to each restaurant and enjoyed this work so much that she remained in that industry. She was passionate about her many beloved kitties, her garden, and loved traveling to visit relatives in Mystic, Stonington and Mason's Island, Connecticut. Throughout her life, Lorraine cherished and maintained friendships from all walks of life and will be missed by so many. Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, Sylvia and Edward Smith, and is survived by sister, Sheral Smith James, significant other, Joseph Mandato, former husband, Tom Bourgeois, numerous cousins and her precious kitties, Mr. Salty and Pepper. Friends and family will be gathering to celebrate Lorraine's life on February 26th, 1:00pm, at a private residence. |
