About Janet Mae Cluff 1940-2024

Janet Mae Cluff, daughter of Guy Gilbert Thompson and Alpha Louise Kurtz, was born January 15, 1940. Janet completed her mortal journey on February 13, 2024 and returned home to her Heavenly Father and into the arms of her sweetheart, Norman Cluff.

Janet is the granddaughter of John James (J.J.) Thompson who settled in the Indian Gardens area of Oak Creek Canyon. She was born onat the Thompson homestead on the east side of the creek and spent her early years learning to fish from Oak Creek with her Uncle Jim. They would take their catch home for her mom to cook for dinner. She would pick blackberries from their large berry patch and her Uncle Jim would take her up the canyon to sell the blackberries to people in the campgrounds.

Family was important to Janet. She married Norman Cluff in September 1957 and they had three children. She and Norman took their three children, Georgia, Brenda and Norman often to visit grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and any relatives in town for a short visit. They would go camping, hunting and fishing together. Every year in July she would take her family to a large gathering of the Kurtz clan to celebrate the birthday of the matriarch of the family, Gertrude Kurtz who lived to be 102. Her love for family grew as her children married and grandchildren and great- grandchildren joined her family. Each one was important to her. She loved sharing about her family with others. She did her best to attend baby blessings, school events, graduations and marriages of her grandchildren and be part of their accomplishments.

Janet touched the lives of many children throughout her life. She did childcare in her home for several years. She worked at Clarkdale Elementary School for a time as a teaching assistant as well as a cafeteria assistant. She also served for many years in the Primary organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaching children ages 3-11 about their Savior, Jesus Christ.

Janet is preceded in death by her eternal companion, Norman Cluff, her parents Guy and Alpha Thompson, a half-sister Ann Louise Holloman Biddy, a sister Carol Lee Thompson Godard and a brother-in-law Paul Thomas Schoenberger.

Janet is survived by her sister Eleanor Lucille Schoenberger, a brother-in-law Don Godard, children Georgia Lynn Savage (Michael), Brenda Joyce Hutchins (Eric), Norman Edward Cluff (Janet), 13 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many other extended family members.
