| About | April 10, 1939 July 26, 1987 Martha Raye Shelby was born in Heber Springs on April 10, 1939. She was a business education teach at HSHS where she spent most of her education years. Miss Shelby was a member of the National Education Association, the Arkansas Education Association, the Athena Club, the Cleburne County Cancer Board, the First United Methodist Church, and an alderwoman on the Heber Springs City Council. Miss Shelby had been a sponsor of FBLA, HSHS Cheerleaders, the Senior Class, and she kept statistics for the HSHS Basketball teams. Superintendent R.D. Saunders called her a “teacher’s teacher.” She was know not only for her teaching career, but also for her service to the community. Major Jo Hunt said, Miss Shelby’s life was characterized by her willingness to serve. She will be missed by her fellow faculty members, students, and friends.
