Born July 3, 1939 in San Francisco, Richard Stanton Gerdes, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, died peacefully at his home in Carmichael, CA in the early morning of March 22, 2014, in the company of his family. He is survived by grandsons Owen Hurley, Devin Gerdes, and Reed Hurley, son Geoffrey Gerdes of Springfield, son Gregory Gerdes of Saranac Lake, NY, and daughter Carolyn Hurley of Colfax, all from a previous marriage to Andra Rieden, sister Lynda Zens of Salinas, and nephew Joaquin Randle of Hayward. He is also survived by stepsons Vince Perry of Carmichael and Donald Perry of Roseville. He was preceded in death by parents Claude and Lynne Gerdes of Carmel, CA and his beloved wife Reva Gerdes. After two years in the Army Reserve, Richard graduated from UC Berkeley in 1962, UC Santa Barbara in 1964, and UOP McGeorge School of Law in 1974. He practiced law for 40 years in Sacramento, Carmichael, and Fair Oaks, specializing in real estate and contract law. He had many passions including spending good times with friends and family, playing classical piano, fine woodworking, art, music, cooking and dining, Cal Bears, and classic English sports cars. He leaves behind an extended family of beloved friends. |
