About | Nancy Lee Doctor (nee Hooker), of Carmichael, CA passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, January 10, 2015. She was 75 years old. She was born on October 14, 1939 to Sally Ross (nee Wellonen, born Sirkka Mielikki Makinen in Finland) and LeRay Hooker in Huntington Park, CA. As a young girl, Nancy was a ballet dancer, pianist, ice skater, actress in commercials and televisions shows such as the Ozzie and Harriet Show where she was a recurring character, and after graduating from Downey High School, went on to study nursing at UCLA. Nancy met her first husband, Ronald Doctor, at UCLA and left school after two years as they started a family. They settled in Reseda and then Chatsworth, CA until moving to Sacramento in the summer of 1975. Nancy stayed in Sacramento where she met her second husband, Jimmie Murphree. She always volunteered at her children’s schools, finding an interest in Special Education/Resources shortly after moving to Sacramento. Nancy went back to college in the 1980s, finishing both her undergraduate and Masters degrees in Special Education. She retired from teaching after 19 years at Galt High School as the Resources instructor. In her retirement, Nancy and Jimmie travelled frequently, visiting family and friends, she tutored high school students in reading, and loved to take art classes. She and Jimmie enjoyed volunteering as ushers for the Music Circus productions in Sacramento for many years, and Nancy always had a great appreciation for the arts of any kind. A big joy in her life was spending time with her two grandsons, Jackson and Oliver Paddock, and especially travelling to San Francisco to see them perform in their musical theater and school productions. Nancy is survived by her daughter, Angela, sons Scott and Mark; grandchildren Jackson and Oliver Paddock, and half-brother David L. Williams. |
