About | CHARLES GIACOMELLI Charles Giacomelli passed away on Friday, Dec. 26 at the age of 93 in a Reno hospital with his loving family at his side. He was born in Minden Mines, Mo. On May 25, 1915. He was preceded in death by his father Antone, mother Margaret (Cignetti) Giacomelli and brother Lawrence. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary; sons Edward, Robert and James; daughter-in-law Maria (Guzman) and grandchildren Scott, Seven and Ashley. Charles was a veteran on World War II serving in the U.S. Army in South Pacific, the Phillippines and Luzon. Prior to his military service he worked for the railroad in Colorado and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he worked until his induction into the Army. Before coming to Susanville, Charles worked in Oakland, Calif. He also worked at the old 101 Club near Westwood. Charles and Mary owned and operated the California Hotel and Bar in Susanville for 28 years. In 1966, he went to work at the Sierra Army Depot in Herlong, Calif. until he retired in 1981. In 1990, the Lassen County Fair honored him and Mary as Old Timers of the Year. |
