Donald Hamilton Gates Obituary
Donald Hamilton Gates

Donald Hamilton Gates- a loving father- A hero to his county and a friend to all- died May 16th 2020, peacefully in his sleep. He was 69 years old.

Born January 31, 1951 in Syracuse, NY. His parents were Francis Leo Gates (passed in 1981) and Geraldine Hamilton Gates (passed in 2010).

After finishing high school he joined the Army. Donald spent the next 6 years working as an Army medic here in the states and in South Korea. He came home knowing he wanted to continue his military career and joined the Air Force. He was stationed at the Sierra Army depot in Herlong, CA. He worked as a painter as well as other jobs on base for the next 20 years. While working in Herlong he found his faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a devoted member and knew he wanted to serve his lord. Donald was a natural born mountain man. He could teach you anything from catching fish to making fire without matches. He loved teaching the boys scouts at Bucks Lake during summer camp.

When he wasn't working he was enjoying his days with his family. During the summer we spent all day at the pool on base or bowling at the bowling alley. He was a fantastic bowler. During the evening we would cuddle on the couch watching old John Wayne movies. His kids have seen every John Wayne movie.

In 2001 Don retired from the Sierra Army Depot and moved his family to Reno, NV. There he began working at Wal Mart. For 13 years he enjoyed helping customers and turning co-workers into friends. His sons wanting to follow in his fathers footsteps joined the military after high school. His eldest Donald D. joined the Marines (2006). While his Second youngest David F. joined the Navy(2007).

During his final years Donald Diabetes got a hold of him. He spent his final years close to his children and grandchildren. His memory will live on through the stories that he's told, his silly jokes, his strong testimony, his work ethic and teachings and his love for family and friends.

Donald survived by his children, Donald Daniel, Brian Andrew, David Francis, Mandy Eileen Wood and His 8 Grandchildren. Also, his loving sister Nancy Gadawaski
