About | Juel Cooper Obituary Juel Cooper Reno - Juel Ann Cooper, a devoted mother and loving grandmother passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at her home in Reno, Nevada at the age of 74 after a brief illness. Ms. Cooper was born to Walter and Grace Van Horn on June 21, 1943 in Dundalk, Maryland, and was the second-youngest of nine siblings. She ventually moved with her family to Herlong, California where she spent her high school years. She met the late Rev. Onie Cooper in 1961 while living in Herlong and they married in Reno, NV in 1963 before moving to Sacramento, CA and starting a family of their own. She returned to live in Reno in 1971, and worked in many different industries, including the United States Postal Service, as well as working as a teacher's aide for the Washoe County School District and several local casinos in various capacities before disability forced her to retire. She is preceded in death by her only daughter, Juel Denay Cooper-Johnson, the late Rev. Onie Cooper, Sr., and her parents. She is survived by her two sons, Angelo Cooper of Reno and Onie Dana Cooper of Las Vegas, NV. She leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving Ms. Cooper are her sister, Faye Hayden of Seattle, WA; and her nephew John Van Horn of Carson City, NV and many more family members near and far. Viewing is scheduled for Friday, February 2, 2018, 4:00-6:00 pm at Walton's Sierra Chapel, 875 West Second St., Reno, Nevada. A memorial service will be held beginning at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Second Baptist Church, 1265 Montello St., Reno, NV with burial to take place immediately after the service in Mountain View Cemetery, 435 Stoker Ave., Reno, Nevada.
