Joseph Toxie Jarrell passed away at his home in Ione, Calif., on April 9, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lougenia Jarrell and son Toxie Louis Jarrell.

He is survived by two sisters, Eva Jean Saucier, of Poplarville, Miss., and Mary Ella Daughdrill of Virgina Beach, Va., his wife Lisa, two sons Ronald, of Susanville, Calif., and Mickey, of Pickerington, Ohio, two daughters Awana Jeanette Bradford, of Ontario, Calif., and Ann Jeffries, of Orem, Utah, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Toxie was born on March 20, 1915, in Carrier, Miss. He served in the United States Army toward the end of WWII. As a minister, he was the pastor of the Honey Lake Baptist Church in Herlong, Calif., from 1954-1958 and the First Southern Baptist Church in Susanville, from 1958 to 1969.

Since 1969, he has lived in Amador County, serving as the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Jackson until his retirement in 1982.

Since his retirement, he has served as interim pastor for a number of churches in Amador County and has gone on several missions, including one Estonia. He was laid to rest on April 16, 2009, at the Ione City Cemetery.

This amazing man of God has served as pastor, friend and confidant to hundreds of people. He did his best to live a life that reflected God’s love and is considered a true hero by his family.
