About | Michael Allen Price Aug. 13, 1950 - July 13, 2012 Michael Allen "Mike" Price, 61, a native and resident of Vallejo died suddenly of cardiac arrest while on his early morning walk Friday, July 13. Mike was born Sunday, August 13, 1950 to Lois Arlene Schneider-Price and to Aubrey Gilbert Price, both native Californians with family roots in Napa Valley dating back to 1832. Nicknamed "Mickey" in childhood, his first five years were spent on Parrott Street in Federal Terrace. In 1955, when that development closed, the family moved to Napa where he attended grades K-1, returned to Vallejo where he attended Steffan Manor School, Springstowne Jr. High and graduated from Hogan High School, Class of 1968. Next Mike attended Solano College in Vallejo two years and transferred to Chico State for two additional years. Mike was a successful sports figure in Little League, track and field and especially in high school and college football. A six-foot stalwart, he played defensive end wearing No. 71 jersey at Hogan and No. 70, Chico. At Hogan he was an All North Bay League and Times-Herald All-City Line Selection. At Solano he lettered under Coach Dick Biami. During the Chico years Mike played first string for the Wildcats under Coach Pete Reihlman where his team played in the Camellia Bowl. In 2011 Mike was inducted into the Chico State Athletic Hall of Fame. After college he worked more than twenty years for Chipman Moving Co., as a Packer / Mover and Office Manager. Afterwards many a Vallejoan knew Mike as the broad-smiling, jolly Bus Driver for Vallejo Transit. In June 1973 Mike married Janice Malone, together thirty-two years. Mike is greatly missed. He was one of Vallejo's most likeable and warm-hearted citizens, a friend to all in all walks of life with a boundless sense of humor. We miss his infectious ability to make us laugh and regale in local and Price family history. As "Mickie-Fifty" in blogospheric endeavor, Mike was a daily participant in the site "You know you're a Vallejoan if …", and in Face Book galore. He became perhaps one of Vallejo's best history buffs, helping others tune up their recollections of what really happened during days of yore. Mike is survived by two brothers, Tom Price (Charlene) of Monterey, and Jerry Price (Nancy) Alabaster AL; uncle, Lee Price, Avery CA; aunt, Ula Higginbotham, Sonora; nephews, Kevin S. Price, Salinas, Aaron Price (Winnie) and Casey Price, Alabaster AL; family friend, Tom Geary, Redwood City; many cousins and Mike's two best friends, Greg Fiscus and John Laird. Service will be held for Mike at Skyview Memorial Lawn, 200 Rollingwood Ave., Vallejo, Saturday, Aug. 4, 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at a location to be announced at the service. Pot-luck foods may be left at Skyview's door for direct transport. Memorial contributions may be made in Mike's name to a favorite charity. Published in TimesHeraldOnline on July 29, 2012. |
