| About | Donald Lee Glover of Rancho Bernardo, CA, passed away on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born on October 31, 1940, in Denver, CO, and moved to Redwood City, CA, at 7 years old. He grew up in Saratoga and Los Gatos, CA, where he lived with his mother Maureen and stepfather, Chester “Doc” Glover. Don graduated from Los Gatos Union High School (CA) in 1959, Whitman College (Walla Walla, WA) in 1963 and Santa Clara University (CA) with an MBA in 1970. He joined the US Navy in 1963, attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, RI, receiving his commission on November 22, 1963, before attending Supply Core School in Athens, GA. Later he went on to serve on the USS Rainier armament supply ship during the Vietnam War, retiring as a Lieutenant on November 25, 1969. Don worked a multitude of different jobs and was a serial entrepreneur. At one time he owned, partially owned, or was a managing partner of Jack in the Box franchisees, Maxwell’s Restaurant, Mipro Printing, Premier Bread Company, and several Submarina Sandwich Shops. Don retired from the industry and ended his management career with Enterprise Rent-a-Car, retiring in 2010 only to return from his “retirement” to drive cars for Enterprise all over Southern California. Don was actively involved in the Rotary Club of Rancho Bernardo, serving as President for one year and mentoring many other future Presidents. He volunteered for numerous community events including the Vines and Vittles Family Festival, and in collaboration with Rotary they brought back the Christmas Tree and Menorah lighting ceremony in Rancho Bernardo. He also spearheaded several ‘End Polio’ capital campaigns including organizing two sky dive jumps, participating in both at ages 75 and 80 years old. Don served on the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation and Spirit of the Fourth boards. Thanks to his extensive volunteer efforts, he is an esteemed member of the Rancho Bernardo Hall of Fame. Don is preceded in death by his mother Maureen Watson, stepfather Doc Glover, and father Carl Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Cathy Glover, son Jeff Glover and daughter-in-law Renee, and daughter Kristin Glover, as well as his grandchildren, Jackson Glover and Kaia Glover. At the age of 80, Don had the unique experience, with the help of a Rotary connection, to find his long-lost family from his father Carl Anderson, including his brother Dale Andersson and sisters Carrol Fedelleck and Sandy Peeso. One of his happiest memories was going to Carl’s birthplace in Sweden where he found a cousin Katarina Laturnus who then connected him with the rest of the family. To his surprise he discovered not only his siblings but many nieces and nephews that he never knew he had. As he would often say, he was blessed and “one lucky dude” to be gifted a whole new family at such a late age. |
