About | Jonathan Free passed away on March 29th, 2004 due to respiratory problems after having become a paraplegic from the mid-chest as a result of an accident in Berkeley on College Avenue (near Newman Hall --church) suffered driving on a motorcycle late evening nearly 15 years before. He had helped the company that made special airbeds to make changes to the design and maintenance to prevent problems when the beds would deflate accidentally, leaving the patient on a hard surface that could cause big problems for paraplegics and others. Despite his disability and associated health problems, he kept going for along time. One highlight for him was to have been able to purchase the last remaining residential house on University Avenue in Berkeley that was also zoned for business. He lived in that house, which is still there next to the Shell station across from the Berkeley High School, until he died. |
