FORMER CHAIR OF THE HAAS SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL PASSES AWAY

The Haas School lost one of its most valued graduates this past weekend. Matt Lempres, MBA 84, passed away on Saturday at home in Piedmont surrounded by his loving family. Lempres was a dedicated member of the Haas School Development Council and served as chair for the past two years. Lempres was also a member of the Haas School Advisory Board. He was the recipient of the prestigious 1999 UC Foundations Trustees Award for his leadership efforts on behalf of Haas. Lempres also received the 1998 Raymond Miles Service Award for his outstanding contributions to the school. Under Matt's leadership, the Haas Annual Fund increased alumni participation and raised over $3.5 million in unrestricted resources for the school.

"We all feel such a sense of loss. Matt was a truly wonderful person and will be greatly missed," said Melissa Lagreid, director of the annual fund and corporate investors. "His insightful leadership and dedication to the Haas School and UC Berkeley were inspiring and far reaching."

Lempres is survived by his wife Caitlin and their three daughters - Mary Caitlin, Ellen Ingrid, and Sarah Maren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to consider a contribution to the Piedmont Beautification Foundation, Lempres Memorial Fund, 120 Vista Ave., Piedmont, CA 94611

I did some research as I was very puzzled why Matt died so young, over 8 years ago. He died tragically to metastatic kidney cancer and complications stemming from this disease. I came across his gravesite in Mountain View cemetary which is located by the side of the road. I remember him playing the tuba in symphonic band and that he was just a nice guy overall though he was a few years older and he sat in a different section.
