Michael Craig was killed by enemy fire while serving with the 240th Attack Helicopter Company (AHC) as a door gunner on a AH-1 Huey "slick." He was hit during an unsuccessful attempt to extract a Special Observations Group (SOG) Recon Team composed of 3 Americans and 9 Vietnamese Civilian Irregular Defense Group (CIDG)soldiers which was in heavy contact with over 300 North Vietnamese Army (NVA) in Cambodia. Michael died in the arms of his friend, Roy Benavidez of the Special Forces. Benavidez reported in this book, "Medal of Honor," that Michael's last words were, "Oh my God, my mother and father . . .
