About | . Raymond D. Lloyd Class of 1953 Ray was born to parents Harriette and Ben Lloyd on February 1, 1935 in Santa Monica. He attended Grant Elementary, John Adams Jr High, Samohi and SMCC where he was a member of the Squires Fraternity, the Drama Club and Water Polo Team. Ray spent summers as a Lifeguard at The Beverly Hills Hotel. He served in the Army from 1955 through 1958 as Military Police serving at Fort Levenworth Army Detention Center in Kansas. During that time he was a member of the Army Volleyball Team which finished first in the "All Army and All Service" tournament. While stationed at Ft Levenworth he met his wife Dolores Collins who worked as the Secretary to the Commandant. They enjoyed 61 years together with 'never a dull moment'. After leaving the Military Service Ray resumed his studies and received his Bachelors of Science Degree at the University of Southern California where he served as Student Body President of the School of Public Administration He was a dedicated Law Enforcement Officer with the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department for 30 years and retired as a Lieutenant. Ray enjoyed teaching in the California State and Community College System for over 3 decades and had fond memories of being a Technical Director for many movies and television projects. l He also enjoyed being a guest speaker at local organizations and seryved as Vice Commander of the American Legion in Torrance Post. Being an avid reader he was particularly interested in historical events. He and his wife traveled a good deal, usually basing the trips on locations with some historical significance. Raymond never missed a a sporting event or event involving his children. He is survived by wife Dolores, Daughter Leslie, sons Kevin and Gavin. Proud Grand father to Larry Ontriverious, Rachel Balanger, Kacee Rae Lloyd and Devin Lloyd and 3 Great Grand children. Services were held at Holy Cross Cementary in Culver City on 10/21017 |
