About | Toni Jean APLAND Henderson ~ Oct. 9, 1949 - Dec. 6, 2023 ~ **NOTE: Briefly attended SHS during our senior year and her photo is in the yearbook as as senior. Toni Jean Apland Henderson, 74, gained her wings Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, at home with family, following a very long battle with COPD. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ken; her son Matthew; her daughter Amy; son-in-law Brent; granddaughter Hailey; brothers John and Steve; sister Carol Ann; and many more friends and acquaintances. Toni Jean was born Oct. 9, 1949, in Deadwood, S.D., to Ralph and Joyce Apland. She spent most of her childhood in South Dakota, until the family moved to Portland, Ore., where she graduated from Grant High School, in 1968. She married Ken April 25, 1970. Her first child was born in 1974, a son, Matthew; and a daughter in 1977. Toni Jean worked at JC Penny’s in Rapid City, S.D.; up until they moved to Clarkston in 1983. She stayed home to raise her kids until Amy was in junior high school. Then began working again at Servatius News Agency, a book and magazine distributor. She had a love for reading, so this was right up her alley. Toni Jean’s passions were her family, reading, bowling and Special Olympics. Her son is special needs, so she made sure that he had plenty of opportunity to grow. She got him involved with the Special Olympics, soon getting herself certified as a bowling coach. She was very loving and non-judgmental, wife, sister, mother, therapist and friend. She has touched so many lives, with her big heart. A memorial for Toni Jean will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Merchant Funeral Home, 1000 Seventh St., Clarkston. |
