Pamela Fletcher Obituary
As a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, family member and overall good friend to all on October 25, 2023 Pamela Jane Fletcher 74, was called to heaven peacefully in her home in Folsom, California. Pam was born February 24, 1949 to Robert and Helen Ide in Santa Cruz, CA. She attended Soquel Elementary School and graduated in 1967 from Soquel High. Thereafter she went on to attend Chico State College from 1967 to 1970 and upon marrying Drew Houghton (SHS-'65) in January 1970, moved to Sacramento where she then graduated from Sacramento State College a few years later, majoring in Home Economics and Interior Decorating.

In her early years, she was a stay-at-home mom with her two children, Kimberly (1973) and Andrew (1979) and was very active with their school and after school programs. In 1975 after her family moved to Tahoe City, she started making dessert - frozen mud pies - for local restaurants. That experience increased her love of dessert making. After returning to Sacramento, and when her kids got a little older, she decided to apply for the open pastry position at the very popular Wulff’s French restaurant in Sacramento, CA. She had no formal training but was motivated to learn all she could. Ann Sheldon, who was a well known award winning chef at the time, took her under her wing and taught her how to make many delightful French desserts. After a few years at the restaurant, she and her best friend, Marcie Gregory, started a catering business. After a short stint with catering, they decided to open a bakery and gift shop called Au Chocolat in Fair Oaks where they made elaborate desserts, cakes, sold Belgium chocolates and gifts.

In the early 90’s, she returned to college to attain her teaching degree and soon she was teaching elementary school which she continued for over 20 years. Pam and Drew divorced around this time and a few years later, she met Larry Fletcher at a high school bingo event. They went on to marry in Honolulu, Hawaii. During their marriage the couple enjoyed visiting Capitola, traveling, camping and visiting with family together. Pam in her later years, learned to play Bridge and started a group where they would meet once per week to play. She liked that so much that she started up a Canasta group as well. This was in addition to the Bunco group that she had been playing in for 45 years. Pam enjoyed all of the connections that these groups provided with all of her heart.

Pam’s warm smile and kind disposition touched the lives of many, making her a cherished figure among family and friends alike. As a mother, she was always there for her two children. She would watch baseball games with Andy and take him to his numerous doctor's appointments. With Kim, she would go to proper English tea and bake. They talked on the phone almost every day. She enjoyed spending.time in Capitola with Larry's children, Brett and Kim and daugher in law, Karena. As a grandmother, she reveled in the joy of her grandchildren, attending as many school and
sporting events as possible for Aidan, Bennett, Alicia and Kayla. And whenever possible, she would bake or can or try new recipes with anyone that wanted to do that with her. Food was her love
language and family, her passion.

Pam’s passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her, but her memory will forever be cherished. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and resilience that will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Pam, Mom, Ama. You will be deeply missed, but your spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.

Pam is survived by her husband, Larry, her son, Andy Houghton, her daughter and son-in-law Kim and John Lewis, her step-children and in-laws, Brett and Karena Fletcher and Kim Phillips, and her grandchildren Aidan and Bennett Lewis and Alicia and Kayla Phillips. She is preceded in death by her son, Matthew Houghton. Your soul lives on in the people you touched, may you now rest in peace.

To honor Pam, friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life in Sacramento. That date and time is to be determined. Interment will be held at Soquel Cemetery (550 Old San Jose Rd, Soquel, CA 95073) on November 10, 2023 and will be for family only.
