Sandra "sandy" Faye Campbell Obituary

Graduation Year Class of 1963
Date of Passing Nov 14, 2009
About Sandra "Sandy" Faye Campbell went home to be with the Lord on November 14, 2009 after an extended illness. Sandy was born in San Diego, California on January 26, 1945 to Martha and William Campbell. She was the fifth of what would eventually be 10 siblings. She was raised primarily in San Diego but moved around several times eventually settling in Livermore in 1979. One of the hardest parts about moving north was leaving behind her beautiful, San Diego beaches. She loved the beach and the sun. But, her family%u2019s move to Livermore, ultimately, lead to her career as a telephone technician. She thrived at this job, which at the time, was still thought of as %u201Cman%u2019s work%u201D. This %u201Cman%u2019s work%u201D allowed her to support her children and eventually fulfill her dream of purchasing her own home in Patterson. She retired from Mills-Peninsula Hospital in 2005.

One of her most courageous moments was going back to high school at 31 years old to earn her high school diploma because she had quit high school at 17 to marry. As a child, Sandy fought and recovered from Polio, and as an adult she bravely fought and survived two separate rounds of Breast Cancer. Some of her favorite activities were doing crossword puzzles, reading, playing scrabble, watching her crime shows, debating politics, and visiting with friends and family. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends at Hillcrest Gardens. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed long road trips in her Mustang or on her Harley Sportster. One of her favorite trips was to see Graceland, the home of her beloved Elvis.

Sandy was especially proud of her children. When her children were young, she spent most of her free time involved in her children%u2019s activities including Scouts, Job%u2019s Daughters and DeMolay. She is survived by her children Debra (Bryce) Jane Bertolino (Livermore), Roger (Jodi) Charles Oldes II (Sacramento), Carrie Lynn Sloan (Manteca), Marty Joe Goode, and her former daughter-in-law, Myong Oldes. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Devan Bertolino; Joshua, Jeremiah and Jacob Oldes, Dustin Smith Oldes, Jordan and Sydney Humphries; Garin Easley, and Campbell and Alex Torres; and Misty, Sarah, Eryn, Janet and Shannen Goode.

She is also survived by seven of her siblings and their spouses: Dean and Margaret Williams, and Gordon Williams (San Diego); Jolean and James Ezell (Livermore); Gary and Marie Campbell (Ripon); Roberta and David Everett (Oregon); Rick and Marla Puryear (San Diego); and Rhonda Bair (South Carolina). She has a vast number of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that loved her and will miss her. She will especially be missed by Milo, the dog she and Devan adopted from Tri-Valley Animal Rescue.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, as well two of her brothers, Russell Puryear and Cecil %u201CIcky%u201D Williams. She was also preceded in death in 2003 by her long-time companion and the love of her life, Richard Lopez.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Livermore on Friday, November 20 at 2:30pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to any organization that supports early detection, diagnosis and treatment of Breast Cancer.
