About | Larry was born in Hugo, Colo. on July 19, 1941. Later his family moved to Holly where he lived until he graduated from high school in 1959. He worked at the Holly Chieftain until high school graduation. While attending Lamar Junior College he was employed by the Lamar Daily News. Upon graduation from Adams State College in 1963 he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Liberia, West Africa for two and a half years. Upon returning to Colo. he taught science with the Vilas, Colo. school system for three years. After completion of his master's degree in science education at Michigan State University in 1970 he went to Guam with a two year teaching contract. He continued teaching middle and high school science until his retirement in 1995. Boating, fishing and scuba diving took care of his time until he opened his custom woodworking shop, Creations of Wood. Guam was the base for extensive travel throughout Asia and the South Pacific. With his passing Larry has joined his parents, Charley and Edith Summers; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Hilbert and Doris Rowe; and his brother-in-law, Hilbert Rowe Jr. His love and memories will be held in the hearts of his wife of 53 years, Zelma; his brother, Keith Summers, of Avondale, Colo.; his sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Fritz Reichhardt of Blaine, Wash.; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Kenneth Burkhardt of Brush, Colo.; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. His many friends on Guam remember him as family. A celebration of life service for Larry was held beach side on Guam. A double rainbow appeared as his ashes were spread upon the Pacific Ocean. |
