About Baltic - William Nelson Janus, 54, husband of Amy Hathaway Janus, died at Mariner Health Care at Bridebrook on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006.

Born in New London on Oct. 27, 1951, he was the son of the late William Janus and Elinor L. (Cockell) Janus. He was a graduate of East Lyme High School.

Mr. Janus was a captain with the Baltic Fire Department and a life member of the Flanders Fire Department. Prior to his illness, he worked at Louis Bond Sand and Gravel for 34 years.

Surviving are his step children, David Hathaway and friend, Dana Perry, of Baltic, Lynda Hathaway Schwartz, of Cape Coral, Fla., Mathew Hathaway, of New London and Angela Hathaway Schwartz, of Kresgeville, Pa.; his mother, Elinor L. Janus, of Uncasville; his sisters, Connie Janus McIntyre, of Niantic, Florence Janus Riley, of Poplar, Mont., and CMDR Wanda S. Janus, USN Retired, of Corbet, Ore.; a brother, Kendall A. Janus, of Niantic; three grandchildren, Devin Schwartz, Logan Schwartz, and Alexander Hathaway; and several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Fort Shantok Cemetery, Uncasville.

Memorial donations in William Janus's memory may be made to the Baltic Fire Department or to the Flanders Fire Department.
