James Robert Kogut Obituary

Graduation Year Class of 1966
Date of Passing Aug 18, 2017
About James "Jim" Robert Kogut, 68, of Meriden, loving husband of Geri (Tsingris) Kogut for 36 years, passed away peacefully at home on Friday August 18, 2017. He had been ill recently and was challenged with Advanced Parkinsons.

Jim was born in Meriden to the late Louis Robert Kogut and Mary (Rybak) Kogut. He attended St. Stanislaus School, & Maloney High School. He then received an AS Degree from Hartford State Technical College and a BS Degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University (in Boston, MA). He retired from Sikorsky Aircraft, Stratford, CT after 42 years as a Design Instrumentation Electrical Engineer. While there he received several recognitions for his service besides developing an idea which earned a US Patent in January 16, 1996 as the Inventor. Jim loved his work with helicopters. He could listen to the rotor blades of a helicopter flying over-head and could tell the model and the company which manufactured it.

Jim enjoyed outdoor activities like hiking, boating, snowmobiling, body surfing in RI and both water and snow skiing. He was a former member of The Meriden Ski Club where he met his wife. Family was most important after his faith. Many Sundays were spent going to Grandma and Grandpa Koguts home with his children to enjoy relatives and family for a good meal then hike and play cards. Jim and Geri received the Family of the Year Award in May of 1998 while working with Catholic Charities and Catholic Family Services with foster care and adoption.

Jim is survived by three daughters: Amanda and husband Syr Jeremy William and children Aribella and Syr Jeremy Jr.; Ashley and husband TJ Dubowski and children Kailey and Mia all from Plantsville; and Kimberly Kogut of Meriden. He also leaves two sons, Peter James Kogut of Meriden and Max Kogut of California. Jim was blessed with close siblings Daniel Kogut and wife Joyce of Plantsville; Susan Kosnoff and husband Mark of Meriden; Karen Malecha and husband Michael of Indiana and Christopher and wife Janice of Ellington, CT. He had many cousins and nieces and nephews.

Jim was blessed with many friends and a beautiful and peaceful environment for 34 years in his home in Wilmington, VT. Deep appreciation is expressed to his brother Danny and especially his wife Joyce for the 24 hours "on call" and many additional hours of support given Jim throughout his illness. The family thanks The Hartford Healthcare Movement Disorder Center, especially Dr. Machado and his staff, the Kindred at Home team of nurses and therapists especially that wonderful angel, Judy. Geri and the kids acknowledge the efforts of the Midstate Medical Center- Pavilion D and the Pharmacy staff, especially two nurses Desire and Sue. Jims last days were made more comfortable in the gentle but competent care of the Franciscan Home and Hospice Care.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his Mass of Christian burial on Friday August 25th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. To send an online expression of sympathy please visit www.stempienfuneralhome.com.
