Renita "Nina" (Griswold) Giorgio, 63, of Avon, beloved wife for 32 years of Dr. P. Anthony Giorgio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hartford to the late Abel Renwick and Helen (Carl) Griswold, she earned her Masters degree from the University of Hartford and worked as an executive with the ARG Companies, LLC and Keystone Companies, LLC. After marrying her loving husband Tony, they moved to Rocky Hill together and have been Avon residents for the last 14 years. She was an active member of the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield and was a member of the Abigail Phelps Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the St. Francis Women's Auxiliary and the Greater Hartford Board of Realtors. Nina was extremely active in charitable organizations in the Hartford area, including the American Red Cross and serving as the chairperson for both the Crystal Ball for the Greater Hartford Easter Seals and the Miracles Gala for St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. She loved golfing and was a member of the Hartford Golf Club and former chairperson of the Nine Holers, the women's nine hole golf league. Nina was very proud of her hole-in-one on the 17th hole at the Hartford Golf Club and parring the difficult 18th hole at Doral Country Club, as well as the many photos she took with Arnold Palmer at the Bay Hill Resort and Country Club. As a cancer survivor and stem cell recipient, she was an avid advocate of the International Bone Marrow Registry through BetheMatch.org, and encouraged everyone she could to donate by sharing her story. Nina was an avid reader, genealogist and gardener who loved to discuss and learn more about politics and spirituality. But she will be most remembered for her optimistic spirit and engaging personality that positively impacted the lives of everyone she came into contact with. She never complained and her spirit never wavered, even through difficult times of illness, her home was always open to friends and her spirit shone through her many acts of love and charity to both friends and strangers alike. An exceptional and loving wife, mother, friend and woman, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Besides her husband Tony, she is survived by her daughters Carla Griswold Giorgio of Manhattan, NY and Molly Lawson Giorgio of Boston, MA; her brother Renwick A. Griswold and his wife Anita of Newington; and her beloved Bernese Mountain Dog, Lucy. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her step-father Arthur L. Wasserman. |
