William Patrick Grogan, 63, died peacefully Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at The Andrew house where he had been a resident for the past years. “Chelsea Bill,” as he was known to his friends, was born and raised in New Britain, Conn., beloved son of Irene (McGauley) Grogan and Bill Grogan, both of whom preceded Billy in death. Billy, a graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1968 was an active volunteer with The Salvation Army and enjoyed many close friendships with those he most admired, the firefighters of New Britain and Chelsea, Mass., where he often visited. Billy had an extensive collection of CDs and videos about firefighting, which he treasured specifically because of his admiration for his heroes. Billy had a lust for life and for food, and despite many hardships he always remained positive, friendly and funny. In his younger days, he could be seen riding his bicycle around Connecticut and enjoying every minute of his adventures. Surviving Billy are his beloved and loving sister, Barbara Grogan-Barone and her husband, Jim Barone, of Fairfax, Va.; his loving niece, Erin of Philadelphia, Pa.; and his beloved Godson, Zachary of Fairfax. His sister, Maryann also preceded Chelsea Bill in death. The family would like to thank the Marvelous staff of the Andrew House, Evelyn, Sarah, Linda, Krystyna, Kathy, Marta, Mae, Elaine, Tanya and Elizabeth and everyone who works there for the loving and comforting environment to which Billy so readily adapted. |
