About | Gwen was my neighbor in Fort Walton during our Choctaw years. She was always kind and had a gentle spirit. I recall her voice had a special softness that was musical and pulled your attention to her words. (Wes Blizzard 68) Gwen Weems Gillis -- Age 54, died December 8, 2004 at her home in Ball Ground, GA. A native of Panama City, FL. Ms Gillis had lived in Ball Ground for the past four years moving here from Spanish Fort, AL. She graduated from Chatawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, FL and from the University of Florida. Ms. Gillis taught in the Baldwin County Schools in Alabama for 20 years and in the Forsyth County Schools for four years at Otwell Middle School. She was a most loved teacher who touched many lives as one who has put more into this world than she has taken out; whose lifelong dedication to be bettering her students' lives was unparalleled. Ms. Gillis was a beloved sister, mother, aunt, teacher and friend. Survivors include her sons, John N. Gillis and Adam W. Gillis, both of Cumming, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Judy Weems of Big Canoe; uncle, Bobby Brown; aunt, Libby Brown, both of Milton, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a special friend, Brian Burningham of Rabun County. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 11 at 2:00 p.m. at McDonald and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Otwell Middle School Library. |
