About | Bonita Kay Crews, known as "Mama Kay", 66, passed away at her home, October 18, 2024 due to an unexpected illness in Zolfo Springs. She was born on May 15th, 1958 in Tampa, FL to Frieda and Earl Gill. She was a lifelong resident of Hardee County, where she graduated Hardee High in 1976. She continued her education being employed by the Hardee County School Board for 30 plus years. Kay was awarded Teacher of the Year three times. She later retired from Zolfo Springs Elementary. She was a member of New Hope Baptist church, actively teaching in Sunday School. She started "Cracker Trail" 4H club in the early 2000's. Kay was a member of the Hardee County Fair Association. She was well known for her catering business "Fat Chicks" where she served Hardee and surrounding counties through her life. She loved the Gators, her goats, Dr. Pepper and her family. She married her husband, Dennis in 1988 and had two sons, Jacob and Sidney during their 36 years of marriage. Kay was preceded in death by her parents Frieda and Earl, her brothers, Ronnie and Ray and her cousin Tamara Hendry. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Crews; her children, Jacob Crews and Sidney (Emma-Rae) Crews - all of Zolfo Springs; her brother in law, Bill Boynton; her "little brother" Greg (Jennifer) Shackleford and daughter, Samantha; nephew (Tamara's son) Heath Hendry; |
