Funeral services for Daryl Robert Mattox 22, 313 Popular St. who was killed when he fell from a cliff in St. Mary, Jamaica, Thursday, will be held here Tuesday. Mattox, according to reports, stepped over a retaining wall thinking there was land on the other side and plunged some 50 feet to his death. Sources report the accident was witnessed by Mattox’s father Robert, who is an executive in a catering service in Ocho Rioscracabessa Jamaica. Mr. Mattox was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and came to Venice 4 years ago with his family. He graduated from VHS in 1965 and them spent three years in the Army, 14 months of which were in Vietnam. Following discharge from the Army, Mr. Mattox enrolled at the USF in Gainesville where he was an honor student. He is a member of Tamiami Memorial Post No. 8118, VFW, and formerly was active in the Boy Scouts and local Civil Air Patrol. Surviving besides his father is one sister, Mrs. Darlene Susan Pitts, Sarasota. Contributions to the Boy Scouts of the Venice area are suggested in lieu of flowers. |
