About | Charles (Charlie) Patrick Farrell, Jr., of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on June 15, 2019 after a long struggle with lung cancer. He was 71 years old. Charlie, the only son of Rosa Napier and Charles Patrick (Pat) Farrell Sr., was born June 25, 1947 in Chattanooga, TN. His family lived in Blue Springs, Ga on the family farm until 1950, when his family moved to Marietta, Georgia. This was the place that Charlie would call home and enjoy many youthful adventures growing up on the family’s small farm on Lacy St. He graduated from Saint Joseph’s elementary school (1961) and Marietta High School (1965), where he was active in track and field. After graduating from high school, he attended West Georgia College and earned a B.S. degree in Business. From 1970 to 1976, Charlie was in the United States Army, spending two of those years in Germany. Upon his discharge, he began his successful thirty-two-year career with the FDIC. During this time, he worked at various FDIC locations and around the country and traveled to a number of National, state, and local banking sites on special assignments. He also attended the University of Wisconsin where he obtained his master’s degree in banking in 1988. While on assignment in Knoxville, TN, Charlie reconnected with his long-time love, Patsy Winston. They married in 1998 and settled in Addison, Texas where Charlie worked until his retirement in 2005. He and Patsy then moved back to Charlie’s hometown of Marietta, Georgia, where he and Patsy enjoyed renovating their retirement home, reconnecting with old friends, and making new ones. Charlie will be remembered by his family and friends as a friendly, fun-loving, and kind person who was always willing to help a friend in need. His greatest joys were snow skiing, water sports, and entertaining. He is survived by his loving wife, Patsy, his stepson, Lee Borden (of the home), sisters, Dr. Donna M. Farrell (Dr. Ralph Hanson) of Seal Beach, CA, Kathy Farrell Benson (Jimmy Benson) of Marietta, Patty Farrell Weisman (Steve Weisman) of Canton, nine nieces and nephews, and a number of close cousins in the Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and N. & S. Carolina areas. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Georgia Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans: http://www.davchapter6.com/home.html. |
