Dr. Margaret Ann Gangarosa-pullin Obituary

Graduation Year Class of 1970
Date of Passing Oct 25, 2012
About Dr. Margaret Ann Gangarosa, 59, passed away quietly at the HPH Sturgill Hospice Care Center in Brooksville, Florida on October 25, 2012 with her parents at her bedside. Peggy was born in Rochester, New York and traveled extensively during her childhood to Honolulu, Hawaii; San Antonio, Texas; Rockville, Maryland; and Lahore, Pakistan before settling with her family in Atlanta, Georgia. As a child, she loved to ride horses and developed a deep affection for animals. She graduated from Tucker High School in Tucker, Georgia and from Emory University in Atlanta. Peg started medical school at the American University of Beirut, in Beirut, Lebanon, where her father, Gene Gangarosa, was Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. However, due to intensification of the Lebanese Civil War, she transferred to Emory Medical School in Atlanta and completed her medical training and residency in pathology there. She then moved to Florida and served as a pathologist for 28 years. Peggy was a member of the Medical Executive Committee and Board of Directors of Brooksville and Spring Hill Regional Hospitals, and was Director of the Department of Pathology from 1992 to October 2012.
Peggy was diagnosed with metastatic renal cancer in March 2012. She confirmed from her own biopsy specimens that she had an unusually aggressive malignancy. Bravely facing a poor prognosis, she took a leave of absence and enjoyed retirement with her many friends as she underwent intensive antitumor therapy. With the failure of her second treatment regimen, she entered hospice care on October 16.
Peggy was well known for her wonderful sense of humor, loyalty to friends, elaborate holiday decorations, enjoyment of games, stylish dress, and love for her pets. She is the widow of John Pullin. Peggy is survived by her parents Rose and Gene; her three brothers, Ray, Gene Jr., and Paul; Gene's wife Lynn and Paul's wife Angela; Peg's niece Megan, and her nephews Tyler and Justin. She leaves her beloved pets Beau, Belle, and Kitty Kat in the care of her brother Ray.
Memorial services will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Seven Hills Chapel, 280 Mariner Boulevard, Spring Hill, Florida. Please bring any small mementos that you would like to add to Peggy's Life Legacy Box. Her ashes will be buried in a family plot during a ceremony in Rochester, New York sometime next spring. Her favorite charities were the Humane Society and the Center for Global Safe Water at Emory University. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Humane Society
