About | Tony attended Church College of Hawaii (now BYUH) in 71-72. He played basketball for Coach Clark for that first season, then left to serve as a missionary for the LDS Chuch in the Gulf States Mission. His mission served Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. On March 7, 1974 he had an accidental fall which resulted in a broken neck and he became a quadriplegic. He succumbed to his injuries and passed away. He was survived by his parents Anthony "Tony" and Caroline "Momi" Kapele. brother James "Puni" '73, sisters: Althea '72, Annie '74, and Janie '75. Paternal Grandparents: John and Rose Sanchez, Maternal Grandmother: Helen Mabel R. Kapele. Paternal Uncles: John, Juan Sebastian, Richard Sanchez, maternal aunts: Marie Chiappetta and Angeline McKay. Maternal Uncles: Frank and John K Kapele, and maternal aunts: Jane McIntosh, Bernice Lopes, Viola Nazara. Many cousins who were also Castle High Alumni: Juan and Joseph, Pauline and Janet Sanchez, Robert, Donald, Jackie, Marie, Margaret, Patricia, JoAnn McKay. Kenneth Matias, Wesley and Randy Gonsalves, Wanda, Holly, Naeole, Mahina Kapele Tony was a very much loved and admired brother, cousin, and friend. His name is revered among those he worked with as a missionary. Brother, we have missed you all these years and look forward to the time we can meet again. Tony's final resting place is at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery, Kaneohe. |
