About | Birth: May 7, 1968 Death: Jun. 25, 2007 Thomas Russell Emel, 5/07/68-6/25/07, age 39, entered the loving arms of God on Monday, June 25, 2007, after a short, hard fought battle with an aggressive illness. Thomas was born May, 7, 1968 in Seattle, Wash. Moving to Boise, Idaho in 1981 Tom graduated from Boise High School in 1986. Following graduation he joined the Army and was stationed in Germany and at various bases in the States until his discharge four years later. He was then recalled for active duty during Desert Storm in 1991-1992. With the completion of his military service, Thomas finished his Associated Degree in Criminal Justice at Boise State University, attended the police academy, worked briefly for Boise City Police and finally found his home for the next 13 years with the Ada County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy in the Ada County Jail. On July 4, 2006, Tom married Tera Rouse. Although brief, Tera and Tom had a strong and loving marriage. Tera was the angel in Tom's life and made him very happy. Thomas is survived by his wife, Tera; son, Xavier (13); step-daughter, Kayla (7); parents, Harold and Arlene Emel; and sisters, Michele, Jessica Lynn, and Jessica Nichole. Tom is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Tom is preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen (40). Although a quiet person, Tom loved the excitement of target shooting, motorcycle riding and being outdoors, scary movies, and spending time with his son, Xavier. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent in Thomas' name to the Ada County Sheriff's Employee Association Fund (ACSEA) to help other officers in their time of need. May God Bless you, Tom, and may God Bless all those co-workers you considered your family. May your soul rest in peace and may the legacy of public services that your life represented, live on in each of us. A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 28, from 6-9 p.m., at Summers Funeral Home, Ustick Chapel, Meridian.
