About | James Henry Moodie passed away Saturday May 20, 2023. Jim was born to Emerson and Mary Bruggenkamp Moodie on August 26, 1940. Jim's first home was on Cabin Creek up the Salmon River. When he was two years old the family moved to Spud Creek in the Pasimeri Valley. Jim attended Salmon public schools for each grade except 5th grade, which was spent in May, Idaho. During his years in high school Jim lived on the Allison Creek Ranch. After the Moodie boys left the Allison creek ranch the Fish & Game had to put a ''two deer limit" area there. In 1958 Jim attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana. While at Carroll he played 3 years of football as a defensive tackle. He made one touchdown which led to the name, "Mr. Touchdown". He graduated in 1962. That is when he met his future wife, Martha Bogard. After graduation he went into the US ARMY. He married Martha in 1965 and they had two children, Michelle and Mike. Jim worked for Ralston Purina for seven years, traveling to many different towns in Washington and Oregon. He decided to leave Purina and go back to his home town in 1972. After moving to Salmon Jim bought Farr's Meats. Jim & Martha ran Moodie's Meats for 30 years. Salmon was a great town to settle in & raise their children. In 2002 Jim retired and sold his meat shop. The retirement years to follow were spent wintering in Yuma, Arizona and enjoying the Salmon summers. Jim was just like his mother Mary, sharing in the joy of fishing. He loved to fish and did so with the Grumpy Old Fishermen. He and the Grumpy Old Men fished for many years and in the spring had benefit fish fries for the town of Salmon. Jim looked forward to spending time with his buddies, the Grumpy Old Men. Jim was an Elk's member for over 50 years. He was also a Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus; he spent many years as their leading night. Jim spent several years as the Carmen Grange Master, sat on the Hospice of Salmon Valley board, was president of the Eagles Lodge, and was a member of the American Legion. Jim's most favorite passion was rowing his boat. He rowed many rivers in his lifetime including Salmon, Snake, Middle Fork, Main Salmon Upper & Lower. As well as the Owyhee two or three times in the spring. Jim also went to Alaska with all his river friends and brother (Dennis) to float the Tellkeetna. If you know Jim you knew he liked to float in the spring time as the snow on the river banks kept his beer cold. People remember Jim as an honorable man who was strong as an ox. The tough guy was filled to the brim with generosity and love for his family, friends, and community. Jim loved life to the fullest, he worked hard, and he played hard. He is proceeded in death by Mary Moodie (mother), Emerson Moodie (father), and Tommy Moodie (brother).
