About Lyle Greig was born Wednesday, February 28, 1940, to Ted and Lena Greig in Salmon, Idaho. At the age of 12 he went to work in the stock room at the grocery store. Due to heavy lifting he injured his back and spent almost a year in a body cast. He attended high school in Challis, Idaho, while living in the dorm. He then returned to Salmon and attended school there.
On April 20, 1957, Lyle married Gloria Anderson-Morgan in Rexburg, Idaho. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. In 1958 Lyle and Gloria moved to Longview where they had four children: Keith, Sharon, Chris and Michael. In 2006 Mark Brezeale joined the family and is known as “Our Other Bother Mark.”
Lyle worked in the logging industry until being hired by Longview Fibre. He retired in 2000 after 40 years of service.
Lyle loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and traveling in their RV. Every spring they would head to Idaho and Montana for at least three months, visiting many family and friends. Although Lyle and Gloria traveled to many places, his heart was in Idaho.
Lyle spend 13 years as a reserve police officer, rising to the rank of lieutenant and served a term as president of the Washington State Reserve Association. He attended many conference around the state. Lyle was also a combat pistol NRA master and a firearms instructor. He participated in combat pistol matches around the state winning many trophies. Lyle was both a master and team shooter. These things were his true passion.
After Lyle retired in 2000 he spent a lot of time at the Lexington Minit Mart where he bonded closely with the owner, employees and his coffee buddies. He became known as the store security and the man never short on jokes. If his lips were moving, you knew a joke was coming.
Lyle is survived by his wife Gloria; two daughters, Sharon Jackson (Randy) and Christine Greig; a “son,” Mark Brezeale (Dorothy); six grandchildren, Tia Sorensen (Chad), Valarie Sharp (Adam), Desiree Greig, Emilee Jackson, Shannon Wilhelm (Spencer), and Lyle Greig; seven great-grandchildren; and very special cousin, Juanita Cottrell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Keith and Michael; three brothers, Stan, Gary and Keith; a sister, Joy; a granddaughter, Tiffany; his mother-in-law, Dorothy; and a brother-in-law, John.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 900 11th Avenue, in Longview, Washington.
