About Funeral services for Richard Stevens Armstrong, 20, well known Salmon youth were held in the Salmon LDS Church, First Ward chapel on Monday, January 16 at 1:30 p.m. with Bishop Robert Stokes conducting.
Mr. Armstrong died suddenly Friday, January 13, 1961 following an accident. He was born in Pocatello, Thursday, May 16, 1940, the son of Oscar and Martha Armstrong. The family home was in Blackfoot and he was taken there as a small boy. He remained in Blackfoot until 1948 when the family moved to Lemhi County and settled on a ranch on Kirtly Creek.
Oscar Armstrong, his father, died in 1954 and later that year the family moved to Salmon. Dick graduated from Salmon High School in the class of 1958. He was active in school activities. He was a member of “S” Club, played football and basketball for four years. He was a member of the LDS Church.
He was making his home in Salmon and had been working for P & M Logging for just a few days.
He is survived by his mother, Martha of Salmon, the following sisters and brothers; Lila Johnson, Lola Andrews, Melvin Armstrong, Kady Misner, Don Armstrong, Norma Wellard, Bob Armstrong, Carole Ling, Jack and Verl Armstrong, Verla Evans and Mary Hodges. They all reside in Salmon with the exception of Mrs. Misner and Don Armstrong, who live in Pocatello.
His five brothers acted as pallbearers and also Bob Stephanishen. The funeral program was as follows: prelude and postlude music by Carmen Wolfley, invocation by George Hammon, obituary by Dee Johnson, speakers were Thomas P. Allen, and President Earl Stokes, benediction was given by Bishop Robert Stokes. The music numbers were a ladies duet by Grace Colson and Selma Stoddard; a vocal solo by Veda Stokes and a ladies quartet, Grace Colson, Veda Stokes, Selma Stoddard and Lila Stokes. Flowers were under the direction of the Ladies Relief Society.
Burial took place in the Salmon Cemetery with dedicatory prayer by Jesse Allen.
