About | Scott Alan Coultas, 47, of Bushnell, Ill., died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital, Peoria, Ill. Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Bushnell, Ill. Cremation rites were accorded following the mass. Interment will be in the Avon Cemetery, Avon, Ill., on May 21, 2011. Scott was born Aug. 5, 1963, in Jacksonville, Ill., to Robert D. and Judith Anne (Seymour) Coultas. Scott attended elementary schools in Decatur, Ill., Algonquin, Ill., and Lisle. He attended Lisle Junior High School and Lisle Senior High School, graduating in 1981. Following high school, he was a community service officer for Woodridge Police Department. His goal to become a police officer was thwarted in 1985 when the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a drunk driver; leaving him with physical disabilities. After a long recovery, he took a new career path in law enforcement and began working as an emergency services telecommunicator. He worked in the telecommunication centers at Woodridge Police Department, Lisle Police Department and, on Jan. 28, 1992, the Illinois State Police District 15 (Tollway), Downers Grove. On Nov. 12, 1996, he transferred downstate to work in the telecommunication center at the Illinois State Police District 14 in Macomb, where he worked until his death. Scott was united in marriage to Shannon Kathleen “Kathy” Youell on April 17, 1999, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, St. Augustine, Ill. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Bushnell, Ill., where he was an Eucharistic minister and a lector; and a member of the St. Bernard’s Parish Council. Scott is survived by his wife, Kathy of Bushnell, Ill.; his father, Robert “Bob” (Kathy) Coultas of Avon, Ill.; his parents-in-law, Larry and Theresa Youell of Avon, Ill.; his twin brother, Craig (Mary Pat) Coultas of Aurora, Colo.; his sister, Robyn (Gregg) Norton of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Chris) Youell of Havana, Ill., Erin (Jennie) Youell of East Peoria, Ill., and Shawn (Brandie) Youell of Niantic, Ill.; sister-in-law, Pam Youell of Magnolia, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Rachel (fiance’, Tony Caauwe) Norton of La Crosse, Wis., Jeffrey (Ashley) Norton of Madison, Wis., Sarah Norton of Brainerd, Minn., Haley Norton of Wisconsin Rapids, Cara and Cami Coultas of Aurora, Colo., and Alexis, Kelsey and Brandon Youell of Niantic; a great-nephew, Graham Norton of Madison, Wis.; stepnieces and stepnephews; many aunts, uncles and cousins; other relatives and friends. Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother, Judith “Judy” Coultas; and an uncle, Eugene “Gene” Seymour. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church or donor’s choice. |
