About | David Ellis Harmon, 72, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2012. He was born on March 11, 1951 to Kenneth Charles Harmon and Opal Lorraine (Amos) Harmon. Married the former Terri Greenawald on April 9, 1983, in Forreston, IL. He graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1969 also took some courses at Kishwaukee Junior College. Dave was a lifetime salesman, spending most of his career selling into the agriculture industry, working for a variety of companies. Utilizing his strengths in agriculture, he created and patented an agricultural instrument. In 2003, Dave and his wife Terri bought and ran the Trail Stop Ice Cream Shop in Poplar Grove, IL. As owner and operator of the Trail Stop, this was his favorite job. Dave then went on to work for Hines Farms before finally retiring. As a young man, Dave played interscholastic grade school basketball, played softball with the local 4-H club, and played on his high school football and basketball teams. As a young adult, Dave bowled in a county bowling league. His mom organized monthly potlucks with her cousins, where they all ate together and then afterward Dave and family played hours of competitive Pinochle games. Dave loved fishing, playing recreational softball and golf, and in his later years loved attending football games. Dave was an avid Chicago Bears fan and a Chicago Cubs fan. In 1983 he joined the Harlem-Roscoe Volunteer Fire Dept., first as a Fireman, then an Emergency Medical Technician, then as their Captain of Station 2. He left the fire department in 2000 for medical reasons. In 1984, he became a Charter member of the Machesney Park Planning Commission, and years later became Chairman of that board. Dave served on the board until 2017, when he also had to leave for medical reasons. Dave was very active in his retirement years. He loved traveling with his wife Terri across the country in their motorhome, and wintering in Florida with her, and with their very special camping buddies, Gary and Char. When home in the summertime, Dave enjoyed spending time working on his daughter Tracey and her husband Paul’s farm. He helped transport cattle, gave his time during planting and picking seasons and offered a hand with other various farm chores to stay active. Dave loved the sunshine and doing things where he could be outdoors. He is survived by his wife, Terri Ann Harmon; children, Tracey Ann (Paul) Humphrey of Lena, IL, Lindsay Kristine (Michael Winemiller) Harmon of Collierville, TN, Timothy Eugene Rosenke of Machesney Park, IL, and Joseph David (Stacey) Harmon of Normal, IL; grandchildren, Kassidy Humphrey, Kaiden Rosenke, Kalli Humphrey, Ilias Rosenke, Drew Presson, Payton Harmon, Anna Harmon; sister-in-law, Elena Harmon of Worthington, MN; brother, Thomas (Susan) Harmon of Park Rapids, MN; fur babies, Jackson, Nellie and Cubby. Dave also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother, Michael Harmon. Memorial service will be at 11:00am with a visitation from 10:00am until the service on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Honquest Family Funeral Home, 4311 N. Mulford Rd. Loves Park, IL 61111. |
