About | Mr. Miller was a phenomenal teacher, loved by students, faculty, athletes, and staff, but most of all by his family - his wife, children, and two grandchildren. He came to Greenfield in 1958 from Indiana University, where he coached the freshman football team while a TA (Lee Majors was on the team) and before that he played football at the University of Wyoming, being a member of their 1956 undefeated team and Sun Bowl team. He came to Greenfield High School for a Health & Safety and Boys PE teaching position, and to be the head football coach. In 1960 he led the team to the Capital District Conference championship, where their first huge win came. He quit coaching football in 1963. Also in the 1960s he started the wrestling and golf programs. He coached wrestling until 1976 and golf until his retirement in 1994. He also later taught Business Law. After his retirement he was a big supporter of G-C athletics, and was an inaugural member of the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. He passed away surrounded by his family on October 10, 2014, after having had dementia for a couple of years. He is missed every day by those who loved him. |
