About | Obituary: Norma Nikolich Schaeffer, 82, formerly of Crown Point, Indiana passed away on Friday December 8th at Maple Park Village in Westfield, Indiana. Norma grew up in Gary, Indiana where she graduated from Lew Wallace High School in 1953. At Lew Wallace, she was a member of the Glee Club, the Girls Club, the Drama Club and was on the Auditorium Council, she also loved her job at Gary Steel. After High School, Norma attended Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute, graduating in 1957 with a B.S. in Language Arts. At Indiana State Norma was very active, she was a member of Theta Alpha Phi, the Sycamore Players, the Childrens Theatre, the Oral Interpretation Club, Vice President of the Poets Club, the Dolphin Club and was Cherry Blossom Queen her junior year. Acting was Normas passion and she was called to take a screen test for 20th Century Fox in Hollywood. Norma started her career after college teaching English and Speech at Crown Point High School. Later, Norma went back to school to earn her Masters degree in teaching from Purdue University Calumet. Norma was married to the late David Paul Schaeffer and is survived by their 4 children: Eric (Gina) Schaeffer of Carmel, Indiana; Laura Schaeffer of Louisville, Kentucky; Ilene Schaeffer of Bloomington, Indiana and Evelyn (Dustin) Allred of Minnetonka, MN, and her 4 grandchildren, the big boys Luke and Nick Schaeffer and the little boys David and Griffin Allred. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David Schaeffer, and many beloved uncles. It was her wishes to forego a funeral service; a private family burial will be at a later date.
