About | Plainfield High School Class of 1969, Linda was born at Mary Sherman hospital in Sullivan, Indiana on March 26, 1951. At age 10 she moved to Plainfield, Indiana with her family. During her Senior year at Plainfield High School, she met Butch Chiasson from Thibodeaux, Louisiana while Butch was on leave and visiting with an Air Force buddy (who was dating Peggy Cushman), who introduced them. Most people were not aware that Linda scored in the top 5% on her SAT. When Butch proposed after she graduated in 1969, she chose Butch over college and was married December 1969. While Butch was an ATT service repair employee and a part time deputy sheriff, Linda was a branch manager for the local license branch in Thibodeaux. Linda and Butch have two children, Matt (Dana) and Amy, both graduating from Nichols State and LSU, and 5 grandchildren. In 2001 Linda had surgery for a blocked artery and a blood clot hit her brain, permanently paralyzing her on her left side and also causing temporary blindness. The clot damaged 3/4 of her brain, but her memories were intact. The logic or math section of the brain were compromised and her speech was clear but slow. During the same week, she was due to be promoted to Regional Manager for the license branches. Butch retired from ATT to care for her and worked part and full time for the sheriff department until the last 3 years when he had to devote full time care for her. Since then frequent trips to the emergency room were required. Each subsequent stoke or seizure reduced her capacity to function until this last incident five weeks ago totally removed her ability to survive. Linda was baptized into the Baptist church in Thibodeaux earlier in her life. Funeral arrangements are pending. Linda requested cremation and her ashes will be buried or scattered with her husband's remains after he dies. Ron Padgett, brother |
