Ninetta Diane (Ling) Boyer, 78, of Hartsburg, Missouri, passed away on April 15, 2022, at her home. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 10, 1944, to Dr. John Francis and Mildred Grace (Thomas) Ling. She graduated from Richmond (Indiana) High School in 1962, received her Bachelor’s degree in microbiology from DePauw University in 1966, where she served as president of the Panhellenic Council from 1965 to 1966, and completed postgraduate studies in geology and paleontology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She worked as a microbiologist for Eli Lilly and Company and for the UMC School of Medicine, and later taught at William Woods University in Fulton and Columbia College. She was married on August 26, 1967, at Central Methodist Church in Richmond, to Peter Allen Boyer, M.D., who survives at the home. She was an invaluable member of the Jefferson City community for many years, serving two terms on the Jefferson City School Board and spearheading the construction of a new animal shelter on E. Miller in 1982, as president of the Heart of Missouri Humane Society. She was also active in P.E.O., Tuesday Club, Council for Drug Free Youth, the American Field Service (AFS) Foreign Exchange Student Program (Mid State Representative), the Animal Control Advisory Commission, the Boy Scouts of America program (Den Mother), and the Capital Region Medical Center PARTNERS program, through which she served as a hospital gift shop volunteer for several years. A recipient of the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce 1984 Civic Award, Diane loved all things outdoors, Indiana basketball, and riding her horses Tradition and Osaka. But most of all she loved spending time with her family, planning memorable family vacations to Gulf Shores and Estes Park, and participating in the lives and activities of her seven grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Peter Boyer. Her three sons, Mark Christopher (wife, Lori) Boyer of Oak Park, Illinois, Dr., Gregory Thomas (wife, Kristin) Boyer of Jefferson City, and Timothy Ling (wife, Mayuko) Boyer of Culver City, California; her seven grandchildren, Lily and James Boyer, Kate, Will, and Liza Boyer, and Sakura and Neo Boyer; her sister, Elizabeth Andrews; and her brother, John Ling Jr. Per Diane’s wishes, a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of Missouri Humane Society, PO Box 1031, JC MO, 65102, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. |
