Darrel W. VanCleef, age 62, died at his home on Monday, April 2, 2012. He was born on May 20, 1949, in Gary, Indiana, a son of the late Edna (Olmy) an Charles VanCleef. Darrel was a 1967 graduate of River Forest High School in Indiana. In 1967 Darrel joined the United States Marine Corps and faithfully served his country for twenty years, retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant. On February 14, 1998, he married Colleen Elizabeth Denisty. He was a member of the Ashtabula VFW. Darrel was a devoted husband and loved to spend time with his family. He was known for generosity and was caring and giving to his family and friends, including any furry friends that found there way to his house. He had a talent for woodcarving and wood working and enjoyed keeping his yard manicured. Darrel was a Sci Fi fan and collected movies. Survivors include his wife of fourteen years, Colleen E. VanCleef of Williamsfield, Ohio; two sons, Darrel L. (Salena) VanCleef and Scott A. (Michele) VanCleef both of Valparaiso, Indiana; a step-son, Shawn M. (Michelle) Price of Burton, Ohio; two step-daughters, Julie (Alex) Spirikaitis of Solon, Ohio and Katherine Price of Willoughby, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Jakob and Braden VanCleef, Alex and John Spirikaitis, Christian, Spencer, Jordan and Gracie Price and a sister, Wendy Raley of West Fork, Arkansas. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
