About | Clayton Eugene Huddleston, 91, of Union City, passed away on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at Harbour Manor in Noblesville. Gene was beloved as a great family man to his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Butler), whom he married in Dublin on June 6, 1948; three sons, David (deceased), Dale (Claudia) Huddleston of Maryville, Tennessee, Gary (Lynn) Huddleston of Wabash; daughter in-law, Teri (John) Ditslear of Noblesville; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and sisters, Lela Fries of Straughn and Verda Huddleston of New Castle. He is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Julia (Petty) Huddleston; sister, Ruth Sarver; and son, David Huddleston. A graduate of Straughn High School with the Class of 1942 and Ball State University, Gene spent his professional career in education. Primarily as Superintendent of Schools for Rushville, Yorktown and Randolph Eastern Union City school districts. He was a member of Rotary, Lewisville Masonic Lodge and the Indianapolis Murat Shrine organizations. Gene served on the Board of IHSAA and was an honored Army veteran of WW II. Serving in both the European and Japanese Theaters, he was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday Oct. 9, 2015 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, 1993 Cumberland Street, Dublin. Burial with military honors will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8. |
