About | Dale T. Custer, 41, a lifelong resident of Rush County, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Thursday evening, August 4, at his home. Dale was born February 17, 1970 in Rushville to Verlin & Margaret Ann (Moore) Custer. Dale was a 1989 graduate of Rushville High School. Dale was a partner in Custer Farms & Custer Electric, he dispatched part time for the Rush County Sheriff's Department and was a 23 year member of the Raleigh Fire Department where he was a first responder and Assistant Fire Chief. He was a member of Plum Creek Christian Church, Past president of the Rush County Agricultural Association and was currently on the Advisory board for Washington Twp. Dale was an avid boater & fisherman. Dale is survived by his father, Verlin of Rush County, a brother, Craig & wife Catherine Custer of Rush County, sisters, Nansi Custer of Rush County and Carol Taylor & husband Whalen Abbott of Knightstown, a nephew, Chase Custer and nieces, Cora Custer & Brooke Taylor. Dale was also survived by best friend, Kim Fry of Williamsburg, MO, many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret and his grandparents. There will be an honor guard vigil throughout the evening and fireman's honor's will be observed at Raleigh Cemetery. Ray Sweet III will preside.
