| About | Denise Smith, 60 of Mays, passed away peacefully by the ones she loved on May 23, 2017. She was born on March 15, 1957 in Rushville, IN to Melvin and Mary Kay (Morgan) McDaniel DeHaven. Denise was a 1975 graduate from Rushville Consolidated High School. She married Douglas Smith on July 30, 1978 and he survives. Denise worked for 25 years at the Carthage Paper Mill and then went on to Mays Elementary for 7 years as the Cafeteria Manager. She was an avid Colts fan and loved crafting, sewing and baking. Denise is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Smith of Mays, mother, Mary Kay (Morgan) McDaniel DeHaven of Mays, children, Josh (Brooklyn) Smith of Greenfield, Shawna (Richard) Swincher of Knightstown, and Rashell Smith of Mays, 5 grandchildren, brothers, Randall Lee "Randy" (Anita) McDaniel of Mays and Kevin S. (Kelly) McDaniel of Brownsburg. She is also survived by her uncle, Bob (Shirley) Morgan, aunt, Janet Holloway, and nieces and nephews. Denise is preceded in death by her loving father, Melvin McDaniel. Services will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 2 PM in Center Christian Church, 9112 North 50, Knightstown, IN 46148, with Pastor Tony Augsburger presiding.
